OpenBSD is one of the most important projects in the history of open source software. They created anonymous CVS which was the first system that allowed everyone to get access to a source repository over the internet. Soon after OpenBSD opened their repo, FreeBSD did the same. The first web-based source repository browser was FreeBSD’s cvsweb. The BSDs had a big influence on the Apache project (years before it became the ASF) and several Apache group people were founders of the Open Source Initiative. The Apache project infrastructure was copied and adapted from FreeBSD’s setup, and the ASF setup was used as the basis of Sourceforge.
