I often bemoan my laziness but today, in-between phone calls with Mizuki and Jamie, it struck me that it isn’t laziness but distractedness that gets the best of me. Likewise with my forgetfulness. I forget because I succumb to distraction.
My laziness lies in calling myself lazy.
I was curious because I was not distracted. [...] I was deeply immersed during my visit because I had deliberately locked my phone in a coin locker [...] It’s almost poetic in a way; I imprisoned the thing that imprisons my attention.
— Matt Lemmone, Dumb Little Black Box, 2025
You’re not lazy, you’re distracted.
You’re not forgetful, you’re distracted.
