The third year of this walk, which began on June 9th, 2023, the day I turned 27 will soon be at an end, so maybe a recap wouldn’t go amiss. That first summer I made it as far as Albania, Mizuki having joined me for the walk across Montenegro, but by the end of October the days were getting short and cold, so we settled into a house in the little (200 people!) village of Pëllumbas in Albania.

On the 1st of June 2024 I picked up my footsteps where I left them the year before, and continued plodding South. I meandered slowly through Albania, not wanting to leave after falling for the people, the land, and the language, dipped into Kosovo, North Macedonia, Greece, Bulgaria, and Turkey, finishing in October in Istanbul.

This year, after spending the winter with Kyle and Avvai who I met in Istanbul, I began a little earlier, on the 28th of April, by June 23rd I’d covered 1902 kilometres and crossed into Georgia where I took a break before Jonny came and joined me for a week to walk through Armenia. After Jonny left I walked north, back across Armenia, through Georgia from bottom to top, and crossed into Russia on September 30th after a very drawn out visa process. 26 days later I crossed into Kazakhstan.

I’ll finish this year somewhere here in Kazakhstan and, if all goes according to plan, pick up my footsteps in the spring, crossing Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and arriving at last at the Himalya in India sometime toward the end of summer.
