Been quietly meditating on this all week because I’m coming around to writing more seriously about public ed, something I’ve avoided for years for so many reasons (impostor stuff, culture wars, anger/resentment, noise/overwhelm in the trenches). But I’m starting to see a clearing, several forces colliding (my own considerable experience/ripeness of mind, political chaos/high need, not many “everyday” voices out there). Last night an old friend and I were talking over dinner about what deep cuts to special education actually mean on the ground and he encouraged me to write about it because “nobody knows!” I needed to hear that from someone in a different line of work because most of my friends do what I do and we take the knowledge for granted, or don’t see it’s value in discourse. Anyway, I’m rambling.
